Later when Pedro was on trial for atrocities to the indigenous tribes, she testified against him. She later married the nephew of Pedro Heredia. Those who fought back were killed by the overwhelming force and weapons of the Spanish Conquistador Armies. Some felt she was a traitor to her people while in reality she tried her best to save them without bloodshed. She was taught Spanish, became Catholic and as she grew older became a translator and interpreter for Pedro Heredia as he traveled throughout the country.Īs Pedro Heredia (he himself was a ruthless invading Spanish conquistador) pillaged and plundered Columbia and Equator in his "exploring", Catalina acted as a translator for him and in dealing with the various indigenous tribes to try to get them to lay-down their arms and give up their gold, precious jewels and be subjected to Spain's rule. As a young girl she was kidnapped by a conquistador and later sold to a wealth family that made her apart of their family. ![]() In the end, she is believed to have died in 1529 in Seville Spain.
